Port Jeff Mayor Invites Residents to “Make a Difference” by Volunteering on New Committees

Port Jefferson, NY, May 15, 2024 — Mayor Sheprow announced today that the Village is actively seeking residents to volunteer for two new committees and one that is being reinstated and reconstituted:

  • A Citizens Commission on Erosion to spearhead the discussions about the East Beach Bluff erosion project as well as other issues related to stormwater resiliency, to explore how other coastal communities on Long Island and beyond are addressing their erosion issues and to help the Village look at best practices and find the best way forward to protect and preserve Village property.

  • A PJCC North Campus Steering Committee to make recommendations and proactively guide improvement of the upland portion of the East Beach Bluff property, aka the PJCC North Campus project; and,

  •  The reconstituted Public Safety Advisory Council to review the operation and administration of Port Jeff’s public-safety ordinances and advise on improvements to increase the safety and quality of life in the Village.

All interested residents are encouraged to go to the “Make a Difference” website at portjeff.com/volunteer, to make your interest in these opportunities known.

In addition, there will be a public Town Hall held on the second floor of the Waterview facility at the Port Jefferson Country Club on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, for Village officials to hear public feedback and respond to questions about the East Beach Bluff stabilization project: where it stands, why it is at a standstill, and how the Village plans to move forward with the project in the days, weeks and months to come (see media advisory).
