Paying your Village Taxes

Annual Village taxes are payable in full without penalty by July 1st of each year.

(Please note that according to Real Property Tax Law section 922, payment of taxes on a timely basis is the responsibility of the property owner even if a tax bill has not been received.)

The annual taxes may be paid on-line at portjeff.com/payments, via credit card at a 2.95% fee of the total tax bill, or by e-check at a flat fee of $ 1.95 per payment transaction.

Tax bills will be sent via regular mail by May 31, 2024.

Taxes are payable in full without penalty by July 1, 2024.

The Village does not accept partial payments of Village taxes, and post-dated checks will not be accepted.

Taxes remaining unpaid after July 1st will incur a 5% penalty for the first month and 1% per month for each additional month thereafter. The property owner will be liable for all penalties on late payments.

We kindly ask that you send the stub portion of the bill with your payment.

Mortgages

Most mortgages include an escrow account for payment of taxes. If a property owner satisfies their mortgage during the year, that owner should contact the Tax Receiver to determine if the tax was paid by the bank, as the bank will not necessarily forward a tax bill to the property owner after the mortgage has been satisfied.

Postmark Dates

The payment of taxes sent via mail is recorded as of the date postmarked by a U.S. Post Office. (A metered postmark is not acceptable.)

It is recommended that a taxpayer sending payment by mail close to a deadline date send that payment by registered mail or certified mail, return receipt requested, or have the envelope handstamped at the local post office window.

Change of Address

It is the responsibility of the property owner to notify the Tax Receiver at: (631) 473-4724, x 211 once the owner has a change in mailing address.
