Acting Supervisor Walsh Signs Executive Order for Mandatory Evacuation of Low Lying South Shore and North Shore Coastal Areas

October 28, 2012 – At 12:00 noon today, an Executive Emergency Order was signed by Acting Supervisor Kathleen Walsh for the mandatory evacuation of the following areas of the Town of Brookhaven:

North Shore Low Lying Areas:
Category 1 and 2 coastal areas including Strongs Neck Peninsula: Click here to view.

The Town is also recommending a voluntary evacuation for any area within the Category 2 Surge Zone (click here to view map) along the South Shore, areas that are prone to flooding and areas that were impacted by Tropical Storm Irene in August, 2011.The Town urges residents in these areas to seek safe shelter immediately with a relative or friend outside the evacuation zone. Suffolk County and the Red Cross have opened a shelter at the following Town of Brookhaven locations:
