As part of the Lawrence Aviation remediation project, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has built a water pump and treatment center at Carolina Ball Field.  Significant accomplishments have occurred on the interior development of the pump and treatment system over the spring months.  All process equipment necessary for conducting the pump and treatment of groundwater has been installed at the center including an air stripper, carbon vessels, filtration devices, piping, etc.  The air intake system along with the post treatment exhaust units have been installed as well as a cork flooring to help further absorb any noise.  This equipment has been tested, cleaned, and fabricated for the Port Jefferson plant.

Exterior work included the installation of gutters, priming and painting of the structure foundation, and painting of the custom made, exterior carriage doors. The color of the roof was chosen by the Beautification Committee and fits well with the structure. It is considered a “cool roof”, which is more environmentally friendly than normal asphalt roofs.

The installation of the living driveway was completed and it is in the process of settling. EPA worked in conjunction with the Village of Port Jefferson Beautification Committee to review the landscaping plan designed by committee members. The EPA will utilize the plans as a template for the types of native vegetation to use and locate on site.
