East Beach Restoration Project to begin 12/4/2020

The Village of Port Jefferson is pleased to announce that the East Beach restoration project is set to begin its next phase of work on Friday , December 4th. This work will include the delivery and placement of more than 80,000 cubic yards of sand beginning at the newly restored jetty on the easterly side of the beach to the end of the Country Club on the westerly side. This phase of the project is expected to continue through the New Year. The sand comes from dredging projects in cooperation with both the Town of Brookhaven from Mt. Sinai Harbor and the Ward Melville Foundation from Stony Brook Harbor. Unfortunately, East Beach will be closed to the public during this phase of the project to allow the contractor to mobilize and stage their equipment and pump the sand to its beach location. Once this phase of this project is completed, it is our expectation that East Beach will be close to being fully restored for all our residents to enjoy. We hope that Mother Nature is kind to us and allows us to enjoy our beachfront again now that the jetties are fully restored.

In addition, the Village is in the final stages of of completing the difficult process of receiving DEC permits to stabilize and re-vegetate our bluff. To be continued!
