INC. VILLAGE OF PORT JEFFERSON HOSTS 27TH ANNUAL DICKENS FESTIVAL

PORT JEFFERSON, NY; November 14, 2023 — The Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson is proud to partner with the Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council this year to host the 27th annual Dickens Festival, Saturday December 2 and Sunday, December 3, 2023.

On Friday, December 1 — Dickens’ Eve — the Village hosts a special holiday kick off of its own with “Residents’ Night” from 6:00pm until 8:30pm at the Port Jefferson Village Center at Harborfront Park. Two free ice skating sessions from 6:30pm – 7:15pm and 7:30pm – 8:15pm; refreshments will be served by the Mayor and Board of Trustees including hot cocoa, cookies and brownies; other festivities include the Elven Workshop that has been producing the trees for the beautiful and spectacular “Festival of Trees” cohosted by the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and opening Friday on the second floor of the Village Center.

On Saturday and Sunday, the streets of Port Jefferson will be lined with residents volunteering in Dickens-era costumes as Dickens-era characters and performing vignettes from the author’s prolific works. Every business and community organization gets involved in some way as they have for the past 26 years. The Village truly goes back in time to showcase this great artist’s work.

“This is my first Dickens Festival as Mayor, and I am thrilled that it has come together so seamlessly,” said Village of Port Jefferson Mayor Lauren Sheprow. “I’m thoroughly impressed with how the Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council takes hold of organizing the entire schedule of events, sponsorship relationships, and fundraising to support their organization; I’m so proud to see what organizers Allan Varela, Paul Braile and George and Karen Overin were able to accomplish this year. They’ve done an amazing job and we’re proud to support them, and this great showcase event for all to enjoy in Port Jefferson.”
