Village Of Port Jefferson Board of Trustees
Appointed to Commissions at Annual Organizational Meeting

PORT JEFFERSON, NY, July 2, 2024 – At the annual Organizational Meeting of the Inc. Village of Port Jefferson held on Monday, July 1, Mayor Sheprow welcomed newly elected Trustees Kyle Hill and Xena Ugrinsky, after which she also announced Commissioner appointments, including Deputy Mayor, as follows:

Deputy Mayor: Trustee Robert Juliano
Commissioner of Finance: Trustee Xena Ugrinsky
Commissioner of Parks & Public Works: Trustee Robert Juliano
Commissioner of Public Safety – Court/Code:      Trustee Kyle Hill
Commissioner of Building & Planning: Mayor Lauren Sheprow
Commissioner of Recreation: Trustee Stan Loucks
Port Jefferson Harbor Commissioner: Harry Faulknor

Juliano will continue in his role as Commissioner of Public Works and Parks, two areas which by Village Code Chapter 15 – Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) — constitute liaison to the CAC. He will also work to reinvigorate the CAC, working on bringing the Council back to fully adhere to Chapter 15, in which the focus is defined as the improvement and preservation of environmental quality.

“Bob has earnestly demonstrated his dedication and interest in good government, and he always has the best interests of the residents at heart,” said Mayor Sheprow. “He is humble and kind and a great Trustee so I feel he is the best choice for Deputy Mayor, and I look forward to continuing to work with him and the entire Board on some of the most challenging issues the Village is facing right now.”

Sheprow selected Ugrinsky as Commissioner of Finance as a nod to her lifelong experience in finance and data analytics, and her interest in serving on the newly codified Budget and Finance Committee, as well as the Power Plant Working Group. She has a solid working relationship with Treasurer Gaffga and will help advance the ongoing fiscal management of Village finances, as the Board awaits the results of the forthcoming report from PKF O’Connor Davies on the Village’s Capital Fund deep-dive analysis. She will also serve as Trustee liaison to the Budget and Finance Committee.

Trustee Hill expressed interest in taking on the role of Commissioner of Public Safety. Mayor Sheprow will transition from that role and guide Trustee Hill on issues the Village currently faces related to public safety, and work on establishing the reconstituted Public Safety Advisory Council. He also expressed interest in working in collaboration with Trustee Juliano on reinvigorating the CAC, and has thus accepted this additional responsibility in his role as Trustee.

Trustee Loucks will continue his efforts as Commissioner of Recreation, working with that department in collaboration with Parks to bring to the Village a quality and array of activities and events in which residents and visitors can enjoy all that the Village of Port Jefferson has to offer.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is a work session scheduled for Wednesday, July 10 at 5PM. At that meeting, Hayduk Engineering will present the findings from the 2023 Walkability Study, among other topics to be discussed.
