This year has not been a typical year. Every news publication and television broadcast talks about the budget constraints, layoffs and the distressed economy. This is a national, state and very much a local issue.

I am very happy to serve as your Mayor for another two year term and thank everyone for their continued support and trust in my administration and office. We have accomplished alot since my election in 2009 and I plan on continuing my work as a community to continue to enrich and promote Port Jefferson

Green Fest 2012

Mayor Garant reporting from East Beach in Port Jefferson, reminding you of the 4th Annual Green Fest event on June 16th at 1 to 6 pm. In addition, Port Jeff has coordinated with the Town of Brookhaven for an E-Waste pickup day at Dept of Public works on North Country Rd. Residents are encouraged to gather used electronics and drop at the DPW from 8 am to 1pm.

Mayor Garant on the beaches of beautiful Port Jefferson, NY - reporting beach restoration projects at East and West beaches, pending final DEC approval for the previously submitted BID package. The project includes a new sea wall, due to some very damaging storms in 2009 and 2010. FEMA and SEMO have approved funding of 87.5% of the $1.3m project. Residents are responsible for only the remaining portion. A line item will appear on the resident tax bill labeled 'beach restoration.' There will be additional coordination with the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County and the ARMY Corps of Engineers on the restoration of the jetty at Mt Sinai harbor. The HMS Bounty is Coming!

Mayor Garant reporting from East Beach, Port Jefferson, NY - Event reminder: The Tall Ship, "Bounty" will be coming into Port Jeff harbor from June 29th to July 1st for all to see and board. The Bounty was used in the 1962 MGM classic - "Mutiny on the Bounty" (with Marlon Brando)and will be now visiting our very own Port Jeff harbor. Tours will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. 2012 Summer on the Harbor Series – Movies on the Sound

Mayor Garant reporting from the deck of Danfords Marina in Port Jeff Village, announcing the start of the 2012 Summer on the Harbor Series - Starting with Tuesday, July 10th - Movies on the Sound! The first movie will be "Hugo" starting at dusk. Feel free to bring a chair and picnic. Future movies will include: Footloose, The Muppets and Harry Potter. On Wednesdays, starting July 11th, the village will present "Music in the Park" with the beautiful Port Jeff sunset in the background. On Thursday day night, starting on July 12th and each week thereafter, the harbor concert series will start with Allman brothers cover band, "Brother Peach." Long Island Seaport and Eco Center (LISEC) 2nd annual boat build contest August 18th and 19th

Mayor Grant reporting from the 3rd floor of the Port Jeff VIllage Center: LISEC, Long Island Seaport and Eco Center (Foundation headquarters at Bayles Boat Shop). is having it's 2nd annual boat build contest on August 18th and 19th. Participants build their own boat and then race it against others. A first and 2nd prize is awarded. This year LISEC will be raffling off a hand made canoe, this event brings Port Jeff back to it's unique ship building heritage. Hope to see you there. More info always at http://www.portjeff.com. Mayor Garant reporting from the archive room of the 2nd floor of the village center with village historian , Ken Brady who is instrumental in archiving and digitizing Port Jeff's history. Over 20,000 images are already scanned and 2,400 are ready to see and purchase at http://www.portjeff.com. Funds are made payable to the conservancy which helps this project now and into the future as well as our beautiful Harbor Front park. Come say hello to Ken at the Archive room soon!
