Description During World War I, at Port Jefferson’s Bayles Shipyard, the steam yacht EMERALD was converted into a fighting ship. Manned by members of the Naval Coast Defense Reserve, the former luxury vessel joined the Scout Patrol (SP-177), reporting for harbor entrance duty in Philadelphia. Albert J. Brune of Port Jefferson was captain of the EMERALD.
