Description During World War I, at Port Jefferson’s Radel Shipyard, the motor yacht TANIWHA was converted into a fighting ship. Manned by members of the Naval Coast Defense Reserve, the former luxury vessel joined the Scout Patrol (SP-129), searching for enemy submarines in the waters off New York City. John Carlson and Donald Fairservis of Port Jefferson served aboard the TANIWHA.
